Chapter Two

Chapter 2
Sophie spent most of her day at the nursery and at the park with Lauren, she usually avoided going home, it reminded her of Sian.
Lauren ran around the park and played with the other kids there whilst Sophie sat on a bench watching her daughter. She got out her mobile and looked through her pictures. Her wallpaper was of Lauren. Sophie had chosen the dad so that her baby would have Sian’s blonde hair, so they’d feel as if she was both of theirs. Sian adopted Lauren as soon as she’d been born, so Sian was legally still Lauren’s mother.
Whilst going through photographs of her daughter, she came across one of herself and Sian a few weeks before they split, Sophie’s head was snuggled into Sian’s neck and they were watching TV. Rosie probably took it whilst they weren’t looking. Sophie reached to her neck and twiddled around with the silver necklace, the one she and Sian had bought each other.
Sophie sat and thought for a while, before she realised the time and took Lauren home.
By 9pm, Lauren was fast asleep and Sophie was alone, once again. She got out her laptop and checked her facebook, twitter and then her emails. She almost dropped the laptop when she saw the latest one. She didn’t know whether to open it in case it was a wind up, so she sat and stared at the sender. Sophie picked up her mobile and dialled in Rosie’s number.
“Rosie Webster!” a bright cheerful voice answered.
“Rosie? It’s Sophie, I...I’ve got an email...from Sian...” She said, her voice shaking.
“Really? Well...what does it say babe?” Rosie asked,
“I don’t know, I haven’t opened it yet have I...” Sophie replied.
“Well open it then babe!” Rosie said down the phone, Sophie could tell she was smiling; her sister really was Rosie by name Rosie by nature...
“I’m scared Rosie...” Sophie whispered,
“What? Why? It’s only an email! It’s not as if she can hurt you through a computer!” She laughed,
“I guess so...will you stay on the phone with me?” Sophie asked her sister pleadingly.
“Soph, I wish I could, but I’ve got a totally amazing and like really well paying shoot in like 10 minutes! It’s for an alcohol company!” She giggled excitedly,
“Right, okay then, see you later,” Sophie said, sounding quite fed up.
“Ciao babe!” Rosie said and hung up. Sophie sighed and drew her attention back to the email still waiting unopened on her laptop screen. She still couldn’t believe it. After no contact whatsoever for 3 years, this was it. She double clicked the email and began to read.

Subject: Hey
Sophie,
I totally understand if you ignore this email, and if you want me totally out of your life then I know why, but we really need to talk Soph and I just need to know that you’re okay.
So how about we go out for dinner next Saturday night? Just me and you? Text me, you still have my number don’t you?
I am truly sorry Sophie,
Sian xxx
Sophie sat for a while, in utter disbelief. She couldn’t get her head around it. She picked up her phone and dialled in Rosie’s number and explained to her everything the email had said. Rosie told her to call Sian, but Sophie wasn’t too sure.
No New Messages. Sian was getting fed up now, she didn’t expect to get a reply, but she could still hope.
Ryan usually got back home from work at 7, leaving Sian alone, waiting with Harry all day. This was the first time she’d felt like this since after she became Mrs Connor the year before; this was the first time she actually missed Sophie, and just wanted her there to cuddle. Why did she want her so badly? No, need her? This had never happened before.
Every 5 minutes she checked her phone, hoping even more when there weren’t any texts or missed calls. All she could picture in her head was Sophie, Sophie smiling, Sophie laughing, Sophie crying, Sophie’s eyes bursting with love as she stared into Sian’s eyes, Sophie.
She cooked dinner at 6, but stopped because all she could see was a blur, the tears she had been shedding all day hadn’t stopped. This wasn’t want she was feeling, it wasn’t need either. It was so much stronger than that, she couldn’t admit it to herself either.
Ryan texted her at 7, saying he wouldn’t be back until late, he was going out with some mates from work. Sian put Harry to bed and sat in the dark living room crying.
Sian sat up, startled. She looked at the clock, 11pm, she must have fallen asleep. She looked to her right, where her phone was flashing. She picked it up, the bright light straining her eyes in the dark room. Her breath caught when she saw the sender of the text and she opened it quickly.

A smile spread right across Sian’s face as she texted Sophie back, more tears fell, but these were ones of happiness.
