Chapter 3
Sophie and Sian arranged to meet at the new Italian in Weatherfield on Friday night at 7pm. Sian had told Ryan she was going out with her mum, she knew he wouldn’t let her go if he found out she was going with Sophie.
Sophie sat in her room and stared at herself in the mirror. She’d curled her hair, applied her make up perfectly and bought a new black dress. “Is this too much?” She asked herself as she began to get sweaty palms over this dinner. They were only going as friends, Sian was probably married now anyway, and so did she really have to make so much effort?
Sian was doing the exact same thing. Staring at herself in the mirror. Staring at her perfect hair, perfect make up, perfect dress. She looked at her phone, if she didn’t leave now she was going to be late, but Ryan wasn’t back yet. “Shit” She thought.
Sophie walked down to the living room where her best friend Katie was sat playing with Lauren.
“Well don’t you look gorgeous Soph!” she smiled when Sophie appeared.
“Thanks Katie, but don’t you think it’s too much?” She asked unsure.
“Nope! Perfect!” She laughed and lifted up Lauren “Now, you are going to go and see Sian, you are going to see how amazingly perfect she looks, then remind yourself that she’s probably taken, which will make her want you even more...” she winked.
“Shut up, bye bye gorgeous girl!” She said and kissed Lauren’s forehead, “Be good for Auntie Katie!”
“Bye bye mummy!” Lauren giggled and clapped her fat podgy hands and blew a kiss before Sophie walked out the front door and towards the bus stop.
Ryan got home just in time, so that Sian could get straight out of the door as soon as he walked in. She drove over the speed limit to get to the restaurant on time; she was desperate to see Sophie.
Meanwhile Sophie sat at the table in the restaurant waiting. She checked her phone, worrying whether or not Sian was going to stand her up. She probably had an excuse; her new boyfriend wouldn’t let her go on a date with her ex-girlfriend, she had an important meeting to attend or she just could she just not be able to face Sophie?
Sian sped through the streets, checking the time every so often. Sophie would have started to worry now; she knew what Sophie was like, worrying at every little thing.
Sophie sat for nearly an hour alone eyes filling up with tears. Sian had stood her up, and she knew exactly the reason why. She was scared in case something happened between them again, so decided to go back. Her tears brimmed over and spilled down her face as she picked up her coat and bag and prepared to walk out. She looked toward the door and was almost knocked over by the sight she saw walk through the door. The beauty of her made Sophie’s heart almost burst out of her chest with the love she felt for this girl, the memories she’d sealed away in her mind spread through her. Sian shone a beaming smile at Sophie, making Sophie forget the bad memories and the love burned in her heart.
Sian, felt the exact same. The love she’d all but forgotten about filled her body and she felt the sudden urge to...no, she couldn’t...
They sat, ate, drank champagne and chatted nonstop for what seemed like half an hour, but before they knew it, it was time for the restaurant to close. Sian told Sophie about Ryan and Harry and she felt guilty when Sophie’s face dropped and her eyes started to get teary, but at this moment, Sophie was the only one in Sian’s mind.
“Listen Sian, do you want to come back to mine and see Lauren? We can open a bottle of wine and watch a DVD?” Sophie asked and watched Sian’s face light up,
“That would be amazing! Thanks Soph,” she smiled as they walked out of the restaurant into the cold night together.
“Are we walking back? There are no more buses and you are too drunk to drive!” Sophie giggled, drunk herself. Sian laughed and agreed, so they turned right and walked back to Coronation Street.
When they reached the house Sophie looked through the window, Katie was asleep on the couch. She shushed Sian and told her to wait down the alleyway at the side of the house and went in. Katie woke up and Sophie gave her £10, hugged Katie before she left. Sian walked in not long after giggling.
Lauren was fast asleep but Sian sat next to her bed for half an hour while Sophie got the DVD and the drinks ready.
The girls sat on the sofa and watched the film together drinking wine and snuggled up with each other. Sian couldn’t care less about Ryan; she’d rather be with Sophie.
Halfway through the film, Sophie turned her head to look at Sian. Sian turned at looked into Sophie’s eyes, and then she leaned in to kiss her. The kiss lasted for 5 minutes or so, before Sian pulled away and sat with her head in her hands.
“Sian, I don’t know why that just happened... I’m so sorry,” Sophie said worriedly,
“It’s not that,” Sian replied and looked into Sophie’s pale blue eyes, “It’s just... I’ve only just realised that I haven’t ever loved Ryan, and I only got with him to attempt to get over you. But that never happened,”
Sophie bit her lip and kissed Sian, which turned into a make out on the sofa.
“I love you Sophie and I really do regret what happened,” Sian said “I just really wish you can forgive me...”
Sophie looked Sian’s pleading face up and down then took her hand and softly pecked her lips,
“Does that count as an answer?” she giggled and Sian smiled then got her phone out
“Do you mind if I stay here tonight, it’s too late to go home?” Sian asked. Sophie nodded whilst Sian began to text Ryan saying she was staying at her mum’s in Southport.
“Shall we go up to bed now? It’s nearly 2am,” Sophie asked Sian and she nodded smiling.
Sian went to the spare room and put on a pair of Sophie’s pyjamas, got into the bed and lay staring at the ceiling.
Sophie went to her bedroom and put on a pair of pyjamas, got into bed and got into bed and lay staring at the ceiling.
An hour passed and Sian’s tears had almost soaked her pillow. She realised that this love was too strong to ignore, a million times stronger than Ryan’s. It was as if Sophie was her drug. She looked at her left hand and stared at the silver wedding band with pure hatred. She took it off and placed it on the bedside cabinet next to her and stood up. Her bare feet padded along the carpet and into Sophie’s bedroom. Sophie rolled over and looked toward the door and smiled as Sian got into the bed with her. They stared into each other’s eyes for a while until they kissed passionately and Sophie held Sian in her arms while she cried, then they fell asleep, their hands entwined. Sophie smiled in her sleep as she dreamed of Sian.
